Open Question: Do i have to pay out of state parking ticket if i was not driving the car?

I sold a car and let the person I sold the car to use my license plates to get it home,which was about fifty miles away by the way I live in Colorado. The guy I sold the car to donated it to a homeless charity. W ell he forgot to take my plates off the car and now i just got a $50 parking ticket from stockton california .
